People in the
Maldives rely mostly on the Fishing Industry and the
Tourism Industry for income. The tourism industry provides white collar jobs to the ample number of people in the society
The beginning of tourism industry in Maldives can be traced back to the 1990s. In the month of February in 1972,the first tourist resort namely Kurumba Village ( formerly known as Vihamanafushi ) was opened and a group of tourists visited this place for a total number of 12 days. In addition to it, Bandos Island Resort was also one of the first tourist resorts in Maldives. However during recent years, tourism industry has flourished in the country . At present there are over 80 tourist resorts ranging from Luxury resorts to Honeymoon resorts. In a nutshell, Tourism Industry in Maldives is really imperative to the Population as a whole as it acts as a medium through which foreign currency is entered into the country of Maldives
