It's a beautiful place. A preserved place. A place undisturbed by the sheer population. Located in Addu City, Koattey is a natures reserve. It is at the Nothern End of the City with a total area of 16 hectres which is roughly 1.2km. This place is quite rich in Biodiversity. Here you will find a organisms taking shelter in their own habitat. It's evergreen and visiting this place will leave you breathless as there are few places on this Earth where human settlement hasn't reached. I, myself was mesmerized by this place. There are 25 species of plants alone in this place. Fishes like Tilapia could be found in the reefs.
There's a pond called Ranin Hanaa Fenganda in which " Fairies " used to take shower in early days. This water is of a pale yellow colour which is quite amusing. I have been in this water, and yes it's of pale yellow- green colour! Around this pond there are coconut palms which adds beauty.
Species of birds could be seen flying happily in the air. Dhondheeni ( The White Tern ) is in abundance in Koattey.
If you happen to visit the city of Addu, be sure to visit this beautiful place.

A plea from the Paradise
Maldives has always been a country which has environmental concerns. Since Maldives has a very delicate ecosystem, steps are taken to ensure that minimum or no harm is done to the ecosystem. The current president of Maldives, Mr Mohammed Nasheed has a vision to make Maldives Carbon Neutral and he has initiated projects which will help Maldives achieve this due to the fact that carbon emissions are slowly causing the depletion of ozone layer. Maldives being a small country took initiative as to make bigger and powerful countries across the globe to realize that Ozone layer depletion is not a myth. It is rather a harsh reality and Maldivians might have to give up their own land, even their Maldivian Identity.
Indeed Maldivians should take the initiative as we are first inline to face the calamities of nature.
Will Maldives be those islands which used to be in the Indian Ocean, which people used to refer to as the paradise on Earth?
Don't worry people, resorts in Maldives are simply very environmentally friendly and they do follow strict protocols set by the government. So visit Maldives for who knows for how long Maldives is to remain above the waters of Indian Ocean..

Ecotourism in Maldives
As Maldives is a low lying island, slightly above the waters, with a fragile environment, the people residing in Maldives make it their utmost priority to preserve the environment. As a result, tourism indeed has to be eco friendly for Maldivians don't need foreign currency after sacrificing their own land. While many countries around the globe are struggling to protect there delicate eco systems, we at Maldives have a different story to tell.
The government of Maldives make it their top priority to preserve the natural beauty of this paradise. The resorts are placed in certain zones in uninhabited islands to make sure that minimal damage is done to the environment. In addition to this, safari boats are also permitted in certain Atolls.
Most of the resorts in Maldives has a traditional feel to it. The Maldivian crafts and designs are appreciated largely due to the Tourism Industry. Moreover diving might be one of those activities that harm the coral reefs which took millions of years to form. To overcome this problem, marine protected areas are setup to protect the marine biodiversity.
Indeed, tourists can enjoy the beauty of this paradise without tarnishing it.
